A proud member of

The School Day

Our school opening hours are 8:50am to 3:20pm; this equates to 32 hours and 30 minutes of compulsory school time each week.

  • We also run daily wrap-around-care before and after school, as well as after-school enrichment opportunities for all children.
  • Including wrap-around care, school is open from 7:30am to 5:30pm every day, which equates to 50 hours each week.
  • Although school starts at 8:50am, our doors open at 8:40am so that children can be in school and ready to learn, and to ease congestion on the driveway and around school.

Parking

We kindly request that families do not park on Imperial Avenue, in order to support local residents and avoid congestion. We have an arrangement with Wrenthorpe Working Men’s Club which means families are welcome to park there and walk to school.

Thank you for your support with this.

Walking Home Statement

At our school, we believe that ‘Everyone is Valued’ and that working closely with families helps us create a safe, supportive environment for all children.
We understand that, as children grow older, families may wish to encourage greater independence and responsibility. We also recognise the importance of ensuring that all pupils feel safe and confident at the end of the school day. This statement outlines the arrangements in place to support pupils, parents and carers.
End of the School Day – 3:20pm
Children in Years 5 and 6 may walk home independently at the end of the school day, provided the school has received written permission from a parent or carer.
Parents/carers should email the school office to confirm:
  • their child’s name and class
  • that they give permission for their child to walk home independently
Until this permission has been received, children will continue to be released to a known adult.
When deciding whether a child is ready to walk home independently, we encourage parents/carers to consider:
  • their child’s confidence and maturity
  • road safety awareness
  • understanding of stranger safety
  • the route home and any potential risks
We ask families to speak regularly with children about staying safe, using sensible routes, and arriving home promptly.
Collection by Older Siblings
Children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6) may be collected by an older sibling who is of secondary school age or above at 3:20pm, provided the school has received written permission from parents/carers.
Parents/carers should inform the school office of:
  • the sibling’s name
  • their relationship to the child
  • confirmation that permission is given for collection

After School Clubs and Night Owls
Children attending any after school club, including Night Owlsmust always be collected by an adult or 16yrs+ at the end of the session.
This arrangement is in place to help ensure children remain safe later in the day, when there are typically fewer people around the local community and reduced supervision in public spaces. During the autumn and winter months, reduced daylight and visibility can also make journeys home more challenging for children. By ensuring children are collected by a trusted adult after after-school provision, we can continue to prioritise their safety and wellbeing.
Children will not be permitted to walk home independently following after school provision.

Changes to Collection Arrangements
If collection arrangements change at any time, parents/carers must notify the school office as soon as possible to ensure pupils are dismissed safely. By working together, we can help children develop independence in a safe and supportive way.
