A proud member of

Meals

We pride ourselves on being a healthy school, and promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and relationship with food to all of our pupils.

Our kitchen staff prepare a variety of delicious and nutritious meals on-site every day, with generous portion sizes and a range of accompaniments from locally-sourced producers. We cater to the dietary requirements of a variety of children, whether that be halal, allergies, sensory issues with food or any other requirement. Our priority is ensuring that every child has a good, nutritious meal every day! At lunch time we promote conversation between pupils, and you’ll often find adults from school sat with children joining in on the conversation!

As part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme, all pupils in Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free school meals every day.

Packed Lunches

We recommend a well-balanced packed lunch with foods that will keep your child going for the entirety of the school day.

Please do not send your child to school with fizzy drinks or sweets in their packed lunch.

School Dinners

Children have a choice of meals each day – the current menu can be viewed by clicking the link on this page.

The current cost of a school dinner is £2.80 per day.

Free School Meals

Did you know that your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium Funding and Free School Meals?

This funding provides extra support to help children achieve their full potential. With this money we can provide more interventions to accelerate children’s academic progress as well as interventions to develop self-esteem, self-confidence and social emotional skills.
Just by registering your child for Free School Meals means that the school gets this extra funding!

Even if your child is in Reception and already receives a free school meal under the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme, we still ask you to apply if you think you might be eligible. This is because the school can receive extra funding to support your child’s education.

Who can apply?

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free school lunch through the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme but your child may be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) if you receive one of the following:
• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (without Working Tax Credit, and with an annual income below £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
• Universal Credit (if your household income is less than £7,400 a year after tax, not including benefits).

How to apply

You can apply online here:   https://www.wakefield.gov.uk/schools-and-education/schools/free-school-meals/

If you need support, we will be happy to help you with the process in confidence.

Thank you for taking the time to check whether you are eligible. By applying, you are helping us to provide the very best opportunities for your child and all children in our school. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Relationships With Food

We strongly believe that promoting healthy relationships with food is absolutely key for our children. The relationships that they forge now with food will be a huge influence into later life. We teach children, and promote the idea, that there are no ‘bad foods’, but that moderation is key. Our healthy eating policy can be found on our polices page and gives more information, as well as useful tips around a healthy relationship with food.

Dietary Requirements & Allergies

We are a nut-free school, and no nut based (or may contain) products are allowed in school for packed lunches. Our fantastic kitchen staff can cater for all dietary needs, whether that be lactose-free, halal or sensory issues. Please just speak to us if you would like more information.
